Leo Steed: Speed, clean hands and a love of the hunt
Leo Steed is a player I could see Essendon considering a trade up to secure.
His acceleration catches your eye. So does his ability to change direction, gather cleanly and escape through a gap that looked barely big enough to exist.
But there's another part of his game, that I really like. He loves to pressure. He chases from behind, makes repeat efforts and isn’t particularly concerned about the size of the opponent he is taking on.
There are areas to improve, particularly the consistency kicking long and his follow-up work once the ball leaves his area going forward. But there are several useful AFL attributes here, along with experience playing against men.
Speed he can actually use
Steed’s acceleration is a real weapon.
He is quick off the mark and has the top-end speed to keep that advantage once he gets clear. His agility and lateral movement make him harder to contain again.
He can change direction, move around an opponent and zip out of trouble........
