With 50 days to go until Essendon’s Round 1 clash against Hawthorn, Don The Stat continues its daily countdown through the club’s guernsey history.

Guernsey Number 50 has been worn by two Essendon players at senior level, with appearances separated by almost fifty years.

The first Bomber to wear the number was John Carpenter, who played two senior games in 1969, kicking one goal.

The jumper reappeared in 2016, worn by James Polkinghorne, who played seven senior games in Guernsey Number 50 and kicked one goal.

Across its history, Guernsey Number 50 has been worn for nine senior games in total, making it another example of a jumper defined by brief but legitimate appearances in Essendon’s playing record.

Next up: Day 49 and Guernsey Number 49.
