With 37 days to go until Essendon’s Round 1 clash with Hawthorn, Don The Stat continues its daily countdown through Essendon’s guernsey history.
Guernsey Number 37 has been worn by 15 Essendon players, gradually evolving from a fringe number into a modern fixture.
The first Bomber to wear the number was Graham Willey, who played one senior game in 1955, kicking two goals. For several decades, the jumper appeared in short bursts before finding stability with Ian Marsh, who wore #37 across 68 games between 1976 and 1980.
In later years, the number was worn by Ed Considine for 49 games, before passing through several shorter stints in the 1990s.
During the early 2000s, Marcus Bullen wore the jumper from 2001 to 2005, playing 44 senior games, before the number became firmly associated with forward play.
Kyle Reimers wore Guernsey Number 37 from 2007 to 2012, playing 60 games and kicking 69 goals, establishing a strong attacking identity for the jumper.
Since 2022, Nic Martin has worn Number 37, playing 83 senior games to date. Martin will miss the 2026 season through injury, meaning his games tally will resume in 2027, where he is expected to continue building on his already substantial contribution in the number.
Guernsey Number 37 now stands as a settled and significant jumper in Essendon’s modern history.

Next up: Day 36 and Guernsey Number 36.
